Admissions Standards

All students seeking certificates in cosmetology and esthetics are required to submit proof that the student is at least 16 years of age and has an education equivalent to a high school degree.  Students seeking admission to the cosmetology or esthetics teacher training are required to submit proof of an education equivalent to a high school degree and a valid state license in the area for which they are applying.  Students seeking admission to the Massage Therapy program are required to submit proof that the student is at least 18 years of age and has an education equivalent to a high school degree.

  1. New Students:  Acceptance to Midwest College of Cosmetology is based on a student’s high school record and standardized test scores.  Campus visits are strongly recommended.  In select cases, a personal interview and possible letters of recommendation may be required.  Students with an ACT composite score of 15 and a GPA of 2.0 may be admitted without restriction.  Students with an ACT score below 15 or a GPA of less than 2.0 may be admitted upon review by the Director of Admissions.
  2. Transfer Students:  Transfer students may enter at the start of a program.  Students may be accepted if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and are eligible to return to their previous institutions.  Students who are on probation at their previous institutions may be provisionally admitted.
  3. Non Traditional Students (21 years or older):  Non-traditional students are exempt from submitting ACT but are required to submit professional or academic reference letters.
