Course Title: Supporting Learner Experience
Date: September 7, 2008
“Supporting Learner Performance” is an educational session that provides instruction on ideas and strategies teachers can use to help each other incorporate thoughtful practice (application) and informative feedback (assessment) into their classroom routines. During this session, key points will be highlighted, including: high-involvement, guided practice; tests and performance assessment; feedback; self-testing and reflection. Teachers will learn to provide time for students to work collaboratively to explain, interpret, apply and test what they are learning, which will enable them to retain the knowledge they acquire. Special attention is also given to the implementation of flexible learning groups to build knowledge-rich environments that engage students in a variety of individual and collaborative learning tasks.

Course Title: Promoting Learner Responsibility
Date: September 8, 2008
“Promoting Learner Responsibility” is a seminar designed to offer teachers ideas and strategies to promote traditions of respect, responsibility, positive interdependence and recognition in classrooms. At the center of this educational session are strategies to minimize classroom disruptions, methods of adding cooperation to learning and learning connections that validate student accomplishment. Of special interest to teachers are the factors that influence positive student behavior, a 6-step discipline guide and a summary offering tools teachers can use to create learning connections and momentum in the classroom.

About Steven Janssen
With more than 10 years of experience in the beauty industry,
Steven Janssen’s background includes positions as a product
educator, platform artist, editorial hair designer, cosmetology
teacher, school director and educational director for one of the top
200 salons and spas in the United States. His work in both hair
design and teaching techniques has been published in more than 10
languages and 50 countries.
As a national trainer, Steven has traveled throughout the country
offering his creative and exciting training techniques to thousands
of educators, hair designers, salon owners, students and industry
professionals. Using a combination of excellent teaching skills and
highly humorous, inspirational strategies, he excels in bringing concepts,
methodology and training techniques to his classroom.
Steven received both his cosmetology license and his cosmetology
instructor license from Pivot Point in Bloomingdale, IL. Steven has
specialized in Member School teacher training since 1998.
